Recognize International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Join us for this virtual session on December 3rd, facilitated by the Rick Hansen Foundation, and hosted by Harmony Movement as part of the Words Matter Campaign.
Disability knows no boundaries between race, culture, religion, gender or economic status. Even though individuals with disabilities are the largest minority group in the world, accessibility is often left out of today’s DE&I conversations. Learn more about inclusive language and hear the lived-experience story of a RHF school Ambassador.

The session will be recorded and available for viewing for those who registered after the session has been held. The session will be held in English with live French translation.
Speakers:
Charlene VanderGriendt
Charlene spent many years of her professional career in the field of marketing communications. Hear how her story led to a passion for accessibility and inclusion and why she is driven to make a difference. Charlene works with the Rick Hansen Foundation Schools Program team as a Projects and Partnerships Specialist. The work focuses on providing educators the resources they need to create inclusive and accessible classrooms.
Charlene lives in the Woodstock area of Ontario where her and her husband also manage an accessible Airbnb.
Jessica Kruger
Jessica was an active teenager who played basketball and softball. She dreamed of a profession where she could help people or animals, a psychologist or veterinarian. One summer, she fell off a ladder, leaving her with quadriplegia. She soon realized that people in wheelchairs could do all the same things as anyone else, just in a different way.
Jessica graduated from Simon Fraser University with an English degree, and started her own custom dessert business, “The Stubborn Baker” and plays on the BC Wheelchair Rugby Team.
