A Words Matter Campaign Webinar
May 7th | 7:00 - 8:30 pm EST
Presented by FrancoQueer, the first and only provincial association for 2SLGBTQIA+ Francophones and their allies in Ontario, this webinar explores the power dynamics involved in using language to define sexual, romantic, and gender diversity, to describe people who identify within those communities, and to position ourselves in response to the hate, discrimination, and violence they face.
Learning Objectives:
- Depending on each participant’s prior knowledge, explore or revisit the origins of harmful attitudes toward sexual, romantic, and gender diversity on Turtle Island (North America)
- Recognize that dismantling these attitudes is part of the broader journey toward truth and reconciliation
- Become familiar with terminology related to sexual, romantic, and gender diversity
- Understand what inclusive language is, why it matters, how to use it, and when
- Learn which expressions to use vs. which to avoid when interacting with Francophone 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals
- Discover an intervention framework (ADORER) to apply during incidents of discrimination
