Harmony Movement (www.harmony.ca) is a leading provider of diversity education in Ontario. We are a non-profit organization that addresses equity issues and promotes inclusion by educating and empowering youth and adults in schools, communities, and workplace settings to be agents of change. Working with school boards and the private and public sectors in Ontario, we provide diversity education and leadership development programs, conferences, and projects customized to participants’ needs. We work with youth, educators and workplaces in community and not-for-profit settings.

The Marketing Coordinator will play a key role in expanding the reach and impact of Harmony Movement’s national Words Matter Campaign, which equips schools and communities across Canada with programming to address harmful, homophobic, transphobic, anti-Black, and identity-based language. The youth will gain meaningful experience in digital marketing, communications strategy, and national campaign outreach while contributing to a social-impact initiative that supports safer, more inclusive schools.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Communications Strategy Development
    • Support the creation and implementation of a national marketing and communications plan to help grow awareness of the Words Matter Campaign across Canada.
    • Conduct research on comparable national campaigns to identify best practices in digital engagement and outreach.
    • Contribute ideas to strengthen brand visibility and refine messaging for educators, school boards, community organizations, and caregivers.
  2. Digital Content Creation and Management
    • Draft social media posts, newsletters, website copy, and promotional materials that align with Harmony Movement’s brand and equity-oriented mission.
    • Assist in scheduling and managing social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).
    • Create basic graphics, visuals, and short videos for digital platforms using templates and guidance from senior staff.
    • Support the coordination and promotion of online events, webinars, and educator roundtables.
  3. Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement
    • Assist with outreach to educators, school boards, community groups, and national networks to promote campaign resources and events.
    • Support the development of email outreach sequences, partner engagement tools, and information packages.
    • Help coordinate relationships with participating schools by preparing follow-up communications, resource links, and marketing collateral.
  4. Storytelling and Impact Communications
    • Collect stories, testimonials, and campaign impact data from participating schools.
    • Help develop short case studies, blog features, and social media stories that highlight the impact of the Words Matter Campaign.
    • Support the production of an annual Words Matter impact summary for public release.
  5. Administrative and Organizational Support
    • Maintain organized records of promotional materials, outreach activities, contacts, and campaigns.
    • Participate in weekly virtual team meetings, supervision sessions, and planning sessions.
    • Assist in preparing slide decks, communications assets, and resource folders for stakeholder meetings and presentations.
  6. Professional Growth and Digital Skills Development
    • Throughout the placement, the youth will gain training and hands-on experience in: digital, communications and social media marketing, campaign planning and execution, data and analytics interpretation, content writing and storytelling.

This role provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a national social-impact initiative while developing transferable skills in communications, marketing, leadership, teamwork, project management, and digital literacy.

Qualifications:

This job is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. As such there are some specific requirements:

  • 15-30 years old
  • Must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Have a personal and professional interest in equity, inclusion, and social justice issues 
  • Some marketing experience or school studies
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality materials for sharing with our audiences.
  • Excellent research, planning, and time and project management skills with proven ability to see projects and tasks to completion.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team within a flexible professional environment, with minimal supervision.
  • This is a remote position and has flexible hours.

This short-term employment position includes flexible scheduling, but requires 30 hours per week for 8 weeks. Programs are primarily delivered during the daytime on weekdays. Please include your potential availability for program delivery in your application. 

This job pays $17.60 per hour.
